After being a course leader and lecturer in Horticulture at Nottingham Trent University for nearly 20 years I am now working on a new venture in Limousin, France. In our plant nursery and garden school we aim to carry on sharing our passion for horticulture and natural crafts.
Specialist subjects include plant science, propagation, plant identification, specialist traditional and modern pruning and maintenance techniques. We also teach greenwood crafts, weaving, stained glass art and other crafts using natural materials.
Hedge laying course 20th February
This one day workshop covers the principles of hedge laying to produce a traditional ‘Midland’ type laid hedge. We will start with a little theory looking at the plant physiology that will help you to understand the practices involved. We will also look at suitable trees for hedges and hedge laying.
After a light lunch of warming winter vegetable soup and home baked bread there will be a practical session where we will first demonstrate the techniques and then you will practice the practical work to develop the basic skills required to create a laid hedge. This practical session will also include a little tool maintenance and tool safety and will cover traditional and modern tools and materials used in hedge laying.
The workshop will take place at Le Moulin de Pensol just 20 minutes away from Le Jardin Créatif where Nik and Heidi have a 20 acres of wonderful grounds packed with different habitats and wildlife where they also run gites and B&B accommodation.
