We are holding three half day courses in February and early March covering different types of pruning and training of fruits. Each course will cover some of the theory that is useful to know for understanding the practical techniques followed by practical demonstrations and the opportunity to practice the techniques. The courses are designed so that they can be accessed separately to cover one specialist subject or you can book onto two or all three to benefit from the full range of information (for booking see bottom of the page):
Pruning and Training of young orchard trees; How to plan, plant and train a young orchard of ‘top fruits’; this course will cover the principles of choosing and planting orchard trees and will look at the principles and practices of training young standard trees for maximum health and productivity. We will also look at a range of bush fruits. Tuesday 3rd March 2020 1-4pm 35€
Pruning, maintenance and renovation of mature orchard trees; This course looks specifically at established orchard trees, how to keep them healthy and productive with regular maintenance and how to renovate neglected and overgrown fruit trees. Suitable for beginners to gardening and managing a range of fruit trees and can also be tailored to suit an intermediate level of experience. You will learn some basic tree biology and how to put these principles into practice to maintain healthy, productive orchard trees. Covering apples, pears, cherries and other stone fruits. Training of decorative forms of Fruit: This specialist course explores the trainin
g and pruning of decorative forms of tree including espalier, fan, and cordon forms from initial planting and training to ongoing maintenance. These specialist forms are excellent for smaller gardens and for adding decorative dividers and boundaries to your garden or potager. Thursday 5th March 1-4pm 35€

grafting your own fruit tree. We will provide you with two dwarfing rootstocks and a selection of heritage apple varieties to graft (you will make two grafted trees to take home) but if you have your own tree that you would like to propagate then please bring some along, use the contact form below to contact us to find out how to harvest grafting material from your tree.
This basic course in plant propagation will look at the basics of propagating from seed and from semi-ripe and hardwood cuttings. You will learn a little botany that will help you to be more successful in rooting cuttings and understanding the different types of seeds, seed saving tips and overcoming different types of dormancy in seeds.
This half day introductory course is running on Tuesday 5th November 1-4pm: 25€ per person. All materials and light refreshments are provided and You will be able to take home your cuttings.
So many of our garden visitors have been stunned by our chicken wire Alliums that we have decided to put on some workshops so that you can come and make them.

This half day workshop will cover basic growing techniques for a range of culinary and medicinal herbs and will also look at harvesting, drying, preserving and preparing herbs for teas, oils and preparations for natural skin care and well being, aromatherapy, potpourri, candles etc.
