IMG_0801This afternoon workshop is aimed at beginners who are considering acquiring a greenhouse or polytunnel and will cover the basics of selecting and using protective structures for growing  vegetables and ornamental crops.

We will compare glass and polythene and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each and look at pot culture and growing direct in the soil as well as maximising year round use of your tunnel or greenhouse.

This course links with other courses with a horticultural theme that we are offering for beginners including ‘Vegetable growing for beginners’, ‘Soil Science‘ and ‘Basic botany

20180519_134559808_ios.jpgHave a go at chicken wire sculpture and make a cute hedgehog to display in your home or garden or give to someone as a gift.

This course is aimed at beginners and will teach the basics of sculpting with chicken wire. The course will run from 10.00-3.00 on Wednesday 17th April 2019. 35 Euros per person. A light lunch is included as well as all materials and you will be able to take home your hedgehog.

You will need to wear comfortable work clothes and you may want to bring some gardening gloves. Chicken wire is a malleable material but it does take some physical strength and dexterity to use it as a medium for sculpture. We can support anybody who needs  a little help to finish their sculpture on the day

Learn about the fascinating world of plants and find out what makes them grow and respond to the environment around them. Learn useful and fascinating facts about their metabolism and reproduction, morphology and anatomy and how this knowledge can be applied to successful cultivation.

We are running 3, 3-hour sessions fortnightly from 1-4pm starting on 28th March, continuing on 11th and 25th April covering the following topics:

The level of the course will be similar to that of an RHS or NVQ level 2 and is aimed at keen amateur gardeners who want to learn a little bit of plant science that is applicable in the garden and gain more enjoyment from the fascinating world of plants.

Come along and make an owl out of chicken wire! You will learn the basics of building a sculpture using chicken wire and create a stunning owl sculpture for your garden or home.
