Stained Glass for Beginners: MORE DATES available due to demand

IMG_1962Learn the basic techniques involved in making leaded glass pieces and create a small decorative panel that you could use as a suncatcher or small window. **

We have two options available:

The stained-glass starter course will take place over 3 afternoon sessions or two full days – a more intense course for those who have a long way to travel:

Monday 30th September, 7th & 14th October 1-4pm. (fully booked)

Mondays October 21st, 28th and 4th November  1-4pm

***(additional sessions may be needed if you select a more complex design for your glass panel) Cost of the basic course (3 sessions) 120€

Session 1 will cover an introduction to the different types of glass, lead came, solder, tools & equipment and some basic glass cutting techniques. You will then look at how to design a pattern for a stained-glass piece. If time allows we will start creating your design and begin making the piece. There will be various examples and designs available for you to use/copy/adapt and to give you inspiration if you want to create your own design. Your panel can be up to the size of A4. Bring along pictures and ideas if you wish. (note that some design ideas may not be suitable for a small glass piece)

**There will be options available from very simple geometric designs and ideas for complete beginners to intermediate designs if you want a bit more of a challenge or have some experience already. The cost of the materials and the tuition will depend on which design you chose.

Session 2 you will begin or continue putting together your design with guidance.

Your panel will start to develop and you should be able to start cutting the lead and pinning your pieces together.

Session 3 You should reach the point where you can solder your piece together and start the process of cementing. Those that have selected a more complex piece or who need extra time can book onto additional sessions if necessary. These additional sessions will incur a tuition fee of 30€ per 3 hour session.

Places are limited on this course as we can only offer 4 places at a time. We will add additional dates when this course is fully booked. Please use the enquiry form below to request further details and booking information.

We will also be offering more advanced & bespoke courses to create a small exterior window for your house, barn, outbuildings or garden.

amelanchierAmelanchier canadensis is native to Canada (as the specific epithet suggests), and in its native environment is prized for its berries that mature in June  and are packed with vitamins and have been termed as one of the ‘super foods’. Perfectly hardy  and tolerant of the hot dry summers here it is a super choice as a large shrub or small tree for your garden. The fruits are similar in size and taste to a blueberry and can be used as a substitute for blueberries in fruit salads, cakes, sprinkled on your  breakfast,  if you get a bumper crop you can make jams and jellies and even June berry Gin – use the same quantities and method as for making sloe gin.

Not only does it produce an edible crop of tasty fruits but it is an attractive ornamental plant too, the first new leaves have a coppery tint and the early white blossom covers the tree in early to mid-spring. In autumn the leaves turn brilliant red adding a third season of interest. It is low maintenance, requiring no specialist pruning – just the removal of dead, damaged or diseased material and any crossing, rubbing branches.

You can grow it as a standard tree where it will develop a neat, rounded crown or as a multi-stemmed shrub for a lower, more dense effect.

We have Amelanchier canadensis plants for sale at La Petite Pépinière at Le Jardin Créatif and a mature specimen to see in our demonstration garden. We will be offering tastings when the berries are ripe – hopefully for our Jardins Ouverts day on 23rd June!

Le Jardin Créatif are now offering workshops in Metal Art. You can come and create a simple piece using the plasma cutter and/or welding. We also make custom panels, signs and sculptures to order.

On our half day workshops you will be guided through the process step by step to make a unique piece for your garden, home or business. Sessions will be one to one or two people maximum, to be arranged as bespoke workshops.

See our new page on the website for more details: Bespoke Metal Art
